Shocking Details of Samuel Montembault's New Contract Emerges
It's indeed great news to learn that the Montreal Canadiens have successfully reached an agreement with Samuel Montembeault! Once again, Kent Hughes has negotiated this new contract extremely well.
The 27-year-old Quebecois goalie will earn $3.15 million annually for three years, which is a high-quality deal considering the performance he has been delivering for the Canadiens.
Furthermore, the Canadiens' GM managed to secure a salary for Montembeault that is lower than Jake Allen's, a notable achievement given the rumors that Monty was aiming for a higher income, close to $4 million initially.
However, a new detail about this contract further highlights Hughes' success: the Bécancour native has no no-trade or no-move clause.
As noted by the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, this significantly increases Montembeault's trade value.
For comparison, Allen is not only difficult to trade due to his hefty salary but also because he has a no-trade clause for certain NHL teams.
Thanks to Hughes' adept handling, there won't be such issues. Now, the only question remaining is how Hughes will manage the three-goalie situation with his team.
