As the general manager of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes faces crucial decisions that will significantly impact the future of the organization in the coming months. He must determine whether to keep certain veterans on the roster or trade them to acquire valuable assets for the ongoing rebuilding process.

Among the players who might be traded, Sean Monahan's name often comes up, as he will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Currently in his 11th season in the NHL, the 29-year-old center continues to prove his worth, tallying 19 points in 31 games this year.
However, Monahan's contribution is not limited to his point tally. The Canadiens' number 91 is responsible both offensively and defensively, playing on the power play as well as the penalty kill. Additionally, he is one of the best face-off men and possesses a wealth of experience.
There's no doubt that several teams will show interest in the Montreal forward as the trade deadline approaches, especially given his reasonable salary of around two million dollars. He could certainly fetch a significant return for the organization, such as a first-round pick. According to Rob Ellis, the Colorado Avalanche is among the teams that might be interested in acquiring the former Flames player.
"Among potential acquisitions, two centers who could bring distinct advantages to the team are in the spotlight: Sean Monahan of the Montreal Canadiens and Morgan Frost of the Philadelphia Flyers. Both players offer unique attributes that could fit well with the Avalanche's style of play. Monahan, with his seasoned experience and track record, could provide the Avalanche with a reliable and stable presence at center. On the other hand, Frost offers a mix of youth and potential that could energize the team's attack." - Rob Ellis

It will be very interesting to see if Kent Hughes is tempted to trade his veteran in the coming weeks. Additionally, according to information reported by David Pagnotta, the Canadiens' GM has expressed a desire to bring the veteran back to Montreal next year, as he could play a major role in the development of young forwards like Nick Suzuki, Kirby Dach, and Alex Newhook.
If you were in Kent Hughes' position, would you trade Sean Monahan or offer him a contract extension?
