While many experts and analysts believed the three-goalie circus couldn't last more than a month, everyone is stunned that it's still the case. The situation remains unresolved and doesn't seem to be settling soon.

Will it take a trade to resolve, or will it be resolved through waivers?
Kent Hughes has been very hesitant about risking a promising asset like Cayden Primeau on waivers, potentially losing a 24-year-old goaltender for nothing.
Rumors circulating in NHL circles suggest that if Primeau becomes available for free to all teams, he will definitely be claimed.
There's an update on this matter
We have learned that there's some new development with the Canadiens regarding this significant issue. The renowned TSN insider, Darren Dreger, made a surprising statement.
We've repeatedly heard that the solution would involve trading Primeau or Jake Allen. Almost never has Samuel Montembeault been discussed as a tradable asset for the Canadiens.
Yet, Dreger mentions that the 27-year-old Quebecer shouldn't be ruled out. Someone with highly reliable sources in the industry claims that Monty might be shopped by his GM. This is a totally unexpected turn of events.
There's a scenario where Kent Hughes decides to keep Cayden Primeau and trade either Montembeault or Allen, a possibility highlighted by Darren Dreger.

"There's a decision that needs to be made. The Canadiens don't want to say when it will happen, but it includes the possibility of trading one of the three goalies."

Logically, since Montembeault is three years older than Primeau, it might make sense to trade him, especially considering his attractive contract value.
Given that Allen's salary is not easily tradable and he's an excellent mentor for young goalies like Montembeault or Primeau, it's not far-fetched to believe that the solution might involve trading the Bécancour native, unfortunately.
This is a story to watch in the coming weeks.
