As the new year begins and the trade deadline approaches, speculation is increasing, particularly regarding Jake Allen in Montreal. General Manager Kent Hughes is working to resolve the goalie situation for the Canadiens.

Renowned insider Elliotte Friedman has identified teams positioning themselves as buyers and sellers, with the Canadiens classified in the latter category.
Regarding Friedman's insights, the Carolina Hurricanes, who have been exploring options and have had serious discussions with Hughes and the Canadiens, could be willing to trade Michael Bunting for a goalie.
If Carolina turns to Allen, Bunting might interest Montreal, having scored 25 points in 36 games this season. He could be a name to watch as potential trade currency.
At 28 years old, Bunting has accumulated 65 goals and 151 points in 223 NHL games. He has two more seasons after this year at an annual salary of $4.5 million.
