Raphaël Doucet of "La Poche Bleue" recently revealed a significant scoop: a trade involving one of the Montreal Canadiens' goaltenders is reportedly imminent and could happen in the coming days or weeks. This information, based on a well-informed source, hints at a major shift in the Canadiens' goaltending situation.
A significant development has now emerged regarding the Canadiens' three-goalie conundrum. According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, two new teams have entered serious discussions with Canadiens GM Kent Hughes for a goaltender.
The Seattle Kraken and the Buffalo Sabres are the two organizations reportedly in talks with the Canadiens. Garrioch specifically mentions Jake Allen as a potential fit for Buffalo, a team with many young goalies but lacking experience.
Seattle's situation is complex, as they already have three NHL-contracted goalies, including Chris Driedger, who is currently in the AHL but still impacts the salary cap with a $2.35 million hit. The Kraken might offer an interesting prospect and a draft pick to take on Driedger's contract in exchange for one of the Canadiens' goalies.
Regarding the Sabres, they've been previously mentioned as a potential trade partner for Jake Allen's services. Following the departure of Craig Anderson, Buffalo has several young talents in goal, including Devon Levi and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. However, Eric Comrie, their 28-year-old goalie, lacks the presence and performance to mentor these youngsters. Given Buffalo's salary cap space and a deep pool of prospects, they appear to be a strong contender for a trade involving Allen, who could be an ideal partner to support a promising young goalie like Levi.
