Major Failed Trade Involving Jordan Harris? A Surprising Statement Has Emerged
In recent days, several very interesting pieces of information regarding the trade market have been revealed by various observers, including one involving the Montreal Canadiens.
Indeed, a major trade was announced earlier this week between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Anaheim Ducks. The excellent defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a second-round pick were traded for prospect Cutter Gauthier, who had informed Daniel Brière that he did not wish to play with the Pennsylvania organization.
However, we also learned through journalist Charlie O'Connor that Cutter Gauthier, who was selected just after Shane Wright in 2022, had been offered to the Canadiens during last summer's draft.
The Flyers reportedly offered the 19-year-old American forward to the Canadiens in exchange for the fifth overall pick, as they also wanted to acquire young Austrian defenseman David Reinbacher. As you know, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton ultimately declined this offer, preferring to draft the defenseman at the fifth spot.
However, during his appearance on "The Sick Podcast With Tony Marinaro," Georges Laraque mentioned that the Canadiens missed a great opportunity to acquire a top forward.
He also admitted that Kent Hughes should have come back for the Boston College left winger, indicating that he would have offered Jordan Harris and the Canadiens' first-round pick in 2024 to add the former Flyers prospect to the Montreal organization.
"I would have given Harris, who has been playing really well since his return to play, and a first-round pick. (for Cutter Gauthier)" - Georges Laraque
Of course, there is no certainty that Daniel Brière would have accepted such an offer, especially since the Canadiens are likely to have a lower pick this summer. However, knowing that the upcoming draft will be full of talented defensemen, it is quite possible that the Flyers' GM would have considered this proposal.
Cutter Gauthier, a 6'2", 190-pound forward, has performed very well since his arrival in the collegiate ranks, accumulating 29 goals and 31 assists (60 points) in 49 games with Boston College in the H-East division.
If you were in Kent Hughes' place, would you have offered Jordan Harris and the Canadiens' first-round pick in 2024 for Cutter Gauthier?
