When the Anaheim Ducks acquired young prospect Cutter Gauthier from the Philadelphia Flyers, trade rumors surrounding star forward Trevor Zegras began to circulate in the NHL.

After all, the 22-year-old center just suffered his second significant injury this season, and his offensive contribution is well below expectations, with only seven points in twenty games. Additionally, it's worth noting that last summer, General Manager Pat Verbeek seemed very hesitant to offer him a long-term contract extension, settling for a mere three-year deal.
Therefore, many observers agree that the ninth overall pick in the 2019 draft could potentially be on the move by the trade deadline or even during the summer. In this regard, journalist Shayna Goldman from The Athletic brought some hope to CH fans hoping to see him play alongside his good friend Cole Caufield in Montreal.
Indeed, she believes that the Ducks will have to consider a trade due to the number of promising center players about to take on a more significant role in the organization, namely Mason McTavish and Leo Carlsson.
She even listed six teams to watch in this matter, with the Canadiens leading the pack.
«The Canadiens don't need Zegras as their first-line center, that's Nick Suzuki's role. Now that Suzuki has become a player who excels in both ends of the rink, it opens the door for a second line where Zegras would be more comfortable. The Suzuki-Zegras duo would help distribute points and force opponents to rethink their defensive assignments instead of focusing on neutralizing the duo of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.

Zegras would add long-term potential to the young core of the Canadiens, even if he has some flaws in his game. Time spent with a head coach like Martin St-Louis could help him find ways to improve his overall skills.» - Shayna Goldman

Wow! That's interesting!
Admittedly, a player like Trevor Zegras would greatly help Montreal's offense and would also allow the organization to take a big step forward in its rebuilding process.
Imagine if the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge could count on attackers like Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, Kirby Dach, and Trevor Zegras in their top 6! Martin St-Louis would have very interesting options for building two offensive lines.
Furthermore, during his appearance on "The Sick Podcast With Tony Marinaro", the excellent Craig Button mentioned that the Canadiens have the necessary assets to conclude such a significant trade. He also indicated that if Zegras is truly available, he would contact Pat Verbeek every day of the week to ensure he could acquire the center.
«When you look at what the Anaheim Ducks and Montreal Canadiens have in terms of prospects, they know they'll have to make sacrifices to find a way to strengthen their team.

If Trevor Zegras is really available, I would call Pat Verbeek every day to find out the cost. I'm going to talk to him because Trevor Zegras is a 'difference maker'.» - Craig Button

Let's just say that CH fans will be quite pleased to hear this!
Certainly, this will be a situation to follow in the coming weeks, and let's hope that Kent Hughes can hit a home run by adding Trevor Zegras to his roster.
