With a new contract in his pocket, Montembeault has unofficially won the number one goalie position in the organization. While the option of trading him was considered in the past, it is no longer on the table.
"It's not our plan. It was certainly part of the discussions, as he was approaching free agency. If we wanted to trade Sam, we wouldn't have signed him, because goalies are easier to trade without a contract. If Sam continues to play this way, he will get another contract that will pay him even more," Hughes declared on TVA Sports.
