The Anaheim Ducks have been regulars in the top 5 of the draft for several years now. Once again, they will have the opportunity to pick 3rd overall in Las Vegas.
According to reports, the Ducks could surprise the NHL world with their 3rd overall selection at the end of the month.
Anaheim's decision has a significant impact on the Montreal Canadiens' choice, who pick 5th overall.
During the notable ''The Sick Podcast - Recrutes Draftcast,'' former Canadiens scout Grant McCagg indicated that the Ducks might select Beckett Sennecke or Carter Yakemchuk.
McCagg explains that the 2024 draft class is one where players could go as high as 3rd overall or as late as 13th.
The Ducks appear to be targeting a player they like and who fits their system, not necessarily the best player available, contrary to usual practice.
The Columbus Blue Jackets will also have their say before the Canadiens, but forwards like Cayden Lindstrom, Tij Iginla, and possibly Ivan Demidov are likely to still be available when Montreal steps up to announce their first pick.
