Major development for Jonathan Marchessault and it's confirmed with Las Vegas

Jonathan Marchessault will become a free agent on July 1st if he does not reach an agreement with the Golden Knights, who are struggling with the salary cap.

All indications suggest that he will hit the open market, especially since we have just learned that the Quebec native and his agent have had no discussions with the Golden Knights organization regarding a new contract.

It's radio silence from both sides. The Knights have several big contracts to adhere to, and it will be very difficult for Vegas to find a way to offer a decent salary to the player who scored 42 goals this season.

In fact, the Conn Smythe Trophy winner also mentioned that he has not had any talks with management since last summer about a possible contract extension:

"I asked the question last summer. I thought, 'You know what? I'd rather do it in the summer, before the season.' They said they weren't ready to do it, and then, there wasn't even a single discussion during the season."

It can be inferred that he will leave Las Vegas. Should the Montreal Canadiens reach out to the Marchessault camp?
