We can already imagine the reaction of many Canadiens fans if the organization dares to draft a left-handed defenseman at the fifth overall pick. For them, it would be seen as a waste since Montreal already has left defensemen: Mike Matheson, Kaiden Guhle, Lane Hutson, Arber Xhekaj, Jordan Harris, Jayden Struble, Adam Engström...
However, Matheson's contract expires in two years, Guhle needs to avoid injuries, and the others have not yet proven themselves indisputably in a top 4 role.
It would be great if at 5th overall, the Canadiens can land a strong and talented forward, the profile sought by Kent Hughes, but should they draft a forward at all costs if the desired player isn't available?
