Max Pacioretty is about to sign with a direct rival of the Canadiens, and we have the details

Injuries have slowed his production in recent years.

The veteran remains unsigned and is eagerly awaiting a call from an NHL team before he has to consider retiring.

Upon his return in the second half of the season, Pacioretty performed well with the Washington Capitals.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that the former Canadiens captain may sign with a direct rival of the Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Initially, it was thought that the Leafs were only offering Pacioretty a professional tryout, but it seems that the offer might be more substantial.

He would be an interesting addition to the Leafs' third or fourth line and could also occasionally fill in on the top-six and on the power play.

Canadiens fans would also get a chance to see, and perhaps boo, Pacioretty in the Leafs' white and blue jersey.
