Major statement from Don Waddell on the potential Patrik Laine trade
The trade involving Patrik Laine, the Columbus Blue Jackets forward, is currently on hold as we enter August.
Discussions for a trade have stalled, despite extensive speculation about his potential destination.
Columbus GM Don Waddell revealed that only one team has shown genuine interest in Laine. Could it be the Montreal Canadiens or the Carolina Hurricanes? He believes negotiations won't pick up for some time due to the summer period.
Laine, who was the second overall pick in the 2016 draft, had a difficult season last year, playing only 18 games and recording just nine points.
After being sidelined and undergoing the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, he's now cleared to return, but trade talks haven't progressed as expected.
Waddell may need to retain part of Laine's salary to finalize a deal. Expect trade discussions to resume as training camps approach in September.
