Chance for the CH to advance in selections today
After the 2024 National Hockey League draft lottery, attention is focused on a crucial decision expected today.
The Montreal Canadiens, along with the Winnipeg Jets' pick, as well as other teams, could benefit from a selection advantage depending on the Ottawa Senators' decision tonight.
This intrigue stems from a punishment inflicted on the Senators following a controversial transaction with the Las Vegas Golden Knights in 2021. The Senators failed to disclose a no-trade clause, leading to the cancellation of the exchange.
As a result, the NHL ordered the Senators to forfeit one of their future first-round picks, with options for the years 2024, 2025, or 2026.
Now faced with the seventh overall pick in 2024, the Senators must decide whether to sacrifice this selection. Keeping the 2024 pick would mean avoiding the loss of a potentially more valuable pick in the future, but the decision remains uncertain.
While indications suggest that the 2024 pick will be retained, no official confirmation has yet been announced.
