A heated controversy erupted on social media after an article by columnist Scott Maxwell, published on Daily Faceoff, harshly criticized the Montreal Canadiens.

Maxwell ranked the team last in the NHL for salary cap management, stating that general manager Kent Hughes had made poor decisions.
He criticized Nick Suzuki's contract, claiming that Suzuki is not meeting performance expectations, despite scoring 33 goals and 77 points in 82 games.
Maxwell also took a negative view of the contracts of Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, Christian Dvorak, Brendan Gallagher, and David Savard, labeling them as risky bets.
These comments sparked a wave of outrage, particularly from Trege Wilson, who called the article inaccurate. Additionally, some fans questioned Maxwell's impartiality, pointing out that he is secretly a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
