Patrick Roy Makes an Emotional Statement Following His Return to Montreal
What a night it was at the Bell Centre yesterday.
For a rare time lately, the Montreal Canadiens players showed up right from the start of the game, offering offensive play to their fans. After a short time in the first period, the team was leading 3 to 0.
However, indiscipline and a completely stupid major penalty by Brendan Gallagher brought the Islanders back into the game, thus closing the three-goal gap for their head coach Patrick Roy.
Unfortunately for those who wished to see a last-minute victory for New York for the legendary number 33, Sean Monahan broke the tie with a few minutes left late in the third period, concluding the match in favor of the Tricolore.
The emotions were palpable at the CH's home, even before the start of the game.
The Canadiens organization even made a point of paying a beautiful tribute to its former star, by displaying a video of Patrick during the national anthem. The fans on site greatly appreciated it, and an ovation for the Hall of Fame member followed.
Following this very special treatment, Patrick delivered a touching message after the game:
«I want to thank the Canadiens, it was a very nice gesture on their part and it's very much appreciated by me.»
In connection with the fans' vibrant reaction, the famous goalie said he did not expect it, and he added this:
«Extraordinary as usual, they have always been A1 fans. I am very grateful for everything that happened here tonight.»
