Massive Statement From Kent Hughes: the Goalie of the Future for the Montreal Canadiens Has Officially Been Revealed

During the last minutes, the Montreal Canadiens held a very interesting press conference with General Manager Kent Hughes and goaltender Samuel Montembeault.

Naturally, the recently signed contract extension by the 27-year-old Quebec goalie was definitely the topic of the hour during the various questions posed by journalists.
The CH's General Manager even made a major statement, mentioning that Samuel Montembeault's statistics are worthy of a number one goaltender in the NHL. Many fans are wondering who will be the future goalie within the organization, and although it's not officially confirmed, Montembeault's signing along with this great assertion gives a better idea of the situation.
"If Sam is able to continue to progress as he has since the beginning of the season, we will be happy. I think he has become a number one goaltender in the NHL in terms of his five-on-five effectiveness. He is playing really well.

The negotiations were very positive. On our part, we confirmed to him that we wanted him to stay here, so it was just a matter of determining the amount and the number of years." - Kent Hughes

Wow! Let's say that this statement says a lot about the plans of the management concerning the importance that will be given to the Quebecer in the coming years.
Everything thus leads to believe that Samuel Montembeault's recent performances have convinced the management that he could potentially occupy the starting goalie position in the near future. It remains to be seen if Kent Hughes will wish to maintain some stability by keeping Jake Allen with the team or offer a real opportunity to Cayden Primeau to continue his development.
It is now confirmed, Samuel Montembeault is in Montreal to stay. Let's say that the next games of Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau will certainly have significant importance in the decision-making of the General Manager regarding a potential transaction.
Moreover, the number 35 of the Tricolore seemed very happy about his contract extension, he who mentioned repeatedly that he absolutely wanted to stay with his childhood team.

Having the chance to extend my contract and be able to spend three more years in Montreal, I couldn't be happier. You all know that I am really happy to be here so being able to settle this was really good news for me." - Samuel Montembeault
