The Montreal Canadiens have great depth in their defensive prospects.
The future of the team's blue line seems promising with the current presence of Kaiden Guhle, Justin Barron, and Jayden Struble, not to mention the many other talents developing in the minor leagues.
Frequently mentioned, Lane Hutson and David Reinbacher are cited as the next defensemen to soon join the main club, but it's crucial not to overlook Logan Mailloux, the organization's first-round pick in 2021.
At 20, Mailloux is having an impressive first professional season with the Laval Rocket this year, despite a slow start to the campaign.
With 16 points in his last 23 games, the 6-foot-3, 212-pound defenseman is currently the third most productive rookie defenseman in the AHL, ranking just behind Olen Zellweger and Brandt Clarke, two upcoming NHL stars.
This remarkable development within the Canadiens' farm team speaks volumes of Mailloux's progress. He even ranks third among the Rocket's top scorers, behind Joshua Roy and Brandon Gignac.
Although he still needs to improve his defensive play, his performances in other areas are very encouraging. With exceptional mobility for his imposing size, notable robustness, and a formidable shot, his performances in Laval at only 20 years old are incredible.
All this bodes a promising future for him in Montreal.
