MAJOR: Jake Allen's Waiver Fate Officially Confirmed
Many fans are eagerly waiting for a resolution to be finally announced regarding the goaltending trio at the Montreal Canadiens. After all, Martin St-Louis has been dealing with three goalkeepers in his lineup since the beginning of the 2023-2024 season, a situation that greatly hinders the development of Samuel Montembeault.
Indeed, in recent weeks, the Quebecois goaltender has really shown that he deserves the number one role, but his playing time has been limited by the presence of Jake Allen and Cayden Primeau. Knowing that the trade deadline is in less than two months, the general manager of the CH, Kent Hughes, will have to quickly get on the case.
Several observers are of the opinion that the Canadiens need to get rid of the 33-year-old veteran, Jake Allen, whose performances have unfortunately declined recently. In his last ten starts, number 34 has won only one game, while recording a goals-against average of 3.92 and a save percentage of 0.885.
Although some had hoped that the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge would place the goaltender on NHL waivers to finally end this situation, Kent Hughes wishes to maximize his assets and obtain an attractive return for his goalkeeper. While on the airwaves of TVA Sports, Renaud Lavoie confirmed major information, mentioning that this possibility would not be considered by the Montreal management.
"There are many people who think that the solution would be to place Jake Allen on waivers, but what I'm told is that it won't happen. It's not a situation that will happen because it notably decreases the player's value." - Renaud Lavoie
It is therefore official, we can forget the option of seeing Jake Allen join the CH's farm team, the Laval Rocket, in the American League.
The journalist at TVA Sports also mentioned that the only possible way to finally resolve this famous case would be through a trade. We can therefore expect Kent Hughes to be very active in the coming weeks, as he will have no choice but to lower his demands on the trade market if no general manager is willing to pay the asking price.
"This case will be settled via a trade, but I don't know how. One thing is certain, Jake Allen to Laval, forget it!" - Renaud Lavoie
We will have to remain patient, but evidently, Jake Allen's days in Montreal are truly numbered. It will be a big file to follow until March 8th.
