In the past few hours, the General Manager of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes, addressed several important points during his mid-season review. He particularly shared some very interesting information regarding the well-known issue of goaltenders within the organization.
Although some suspected it, the GM of the Canadiens confirmed that it was indeed HIS decision to keep three goalies in Martin St-Louis's lineup. However, his plan was not to maintain a trio of goalkeepers throughout the season, as he had hoped to announce a resolution earlier.
Nevertheless, Kent Hughes also admitted that he is currently waiting to receive a trade offer that he deems acceptable before moving either Cayden Primeau or Jake Allen.
He confirmed a major rumor circulating about the 24-year-old American goaltender. Indeed, Jeff Gorton and he have done their homework by contacting numerous general managers to inquire about their interest in the Canadiens' goalie.
From their discussions, it was clear that teams would claim the number 30 if he was placed on waivers. This situation, therefore, forced the management to keep Cayden Primeau in the NHL, otherwise, he would have been demoted to the American League with the Laval Rocket.

However, Kent Hughes affirmed that Primeau's time in the NHL greatly helped him continue his development, adding that Primeau is officially ready to take on a more significant role in the world's top league.
The Canadiens' General Manager also announced that the goalie trio situation will definitely be resolved through a trade, categorically refusing to place a goalie on waivers and potentially receive nothing in return. So, we can forget the scenario where Jake Allen or Cayden Primeau becomes available for free via waivers.

Certainly, it will be very interesting to see if the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge will be able to complete a trade involving one of its goalkeepers in the near future.
