In the last few minutes, the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St-Louis, has confirmed that Samuel Montembeault will start against the Pittsburgh Penguins, taking over from Jake Allen who played in the last game against the Nashville Predators.
Many fans suspected this, as it was theoretically the Quebec goaltender's turn to defend the Montreal net, but now it's official.
It was high time for number 35 to get a new start, having played his last game on December 7th against the Los Angeles Kings, nearly a week ago. There's no doubt that Samuel Montembeault is having an excellent season, and the Canadiens would certainly benefit from giving him more playing time.
The 27-year-old goalie has won four of his last six duels, totaling a record of six wins, four losses, and one overtime defeat in eleven games this year. He also boasts excellent stats, with a 2.78 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.
