Pierre-Luc Dubois' first season with the Los Angeles Kings is proving to be incredibly challenging.

Acquired at a high cost, both through trade and contractually, the Quebecois forward's performance is currently well below expectations.
What's worse, the situation seems to be deteriorating rapidly for him with the Kings. A disastrous development for him has just occurred within the lineup: he has been demoted to the team's fourth unit. Ouch!
Here are the latest official lines:
Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe

Fiala - Danault - Moore

Laferriere - Lizotte - Kaliyev

Grundstrom - Dubois – Lewis

After signing a hefty 8-year, $68 million contract this summer, the Kings have placed their third highest-paid player, behind leaders Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty, in a support role.
This is a shocking turn of events for him, especially considering that he had a significant say in choosing his next destination, preferring to join Los Angeles.
Things are going so poorly for the Ste-Agathe-des-Monts native that there's talk on social media about the possibility of buying out his contract.
"Dubois makes a terrible turnover in 3-on-3 overtime and makes almost no effort to recover the puck and to get back to help his goalie.

I hate it. Buy out this contract while you can!

That's 6 in a row."

"The tweet 'Pierre Luc Dubois has been placed on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract' is going to hit like a train in the hockey world."

"Some fun late-night stats for everyone:

9/12 of Winnipeg's starting forwards have scored as many or more goals than Pierre Luc Dubois (7) this season.

0/12 of them are paid more than him."

Unfortunately, there are tons of public messages like these about Dubois right now. While a buyout is unlikely due to the dreadful impact it would have on the team's salary cap, dissatisfaction with his play is exploding.
Fortunately for the Kings, even though this year is one to forget for him, Dubois is only 25 years old. He has plenty of time to bounce back, and it could even happen in the coming weeks.
However, it must be said that this trade is currently looking heavily in favor of the Winnipeg Jets, who acquired Gabriel Vilardi, Alex Iafallo, Rasmus Kupari, and a 2024 second-round pick in return.
Dubois has 16 points in 37 games. (Kings)

Vilardi has 18 points in 22 games. (Jets)

Iafallo has 17 points in 39 games. (Jets)
