Earlier this summer, the Los Angeles Kings paid a steep price to acquire Quebec-born forward Pierre-Luc Dubois, a move that unfortunately turned sour for the California organization. Indeed, PLD has been widely criticized for his lack of effort, even being relegated to the third and fourth lines in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, forward Gabriel Vilardi has been thriving since his arrival in Winnipeg, amassing 11 goals and 9 assists (20 points) in 25 games. Additionally, Alex Iafallo has also made a significant impact on the Jets' success with 17 points in 43 games, only two points less than Pierre-Luc Dubois.
The Kings make a surprising announcement about the Quebecer
However, in the last few hours, Kings head coach Todd McLellan made a rather surprising decision to reinsert the newcomer into the first line, despite him being scoreless in eight of the last eleven games.
Although the Kings' management mentioned at the time of his acquisition that they intended to use Pierre-Luc Dubois at center, Todd McLellan seems desperate to find a solution to reignite the 25-year-old forward. He will therefore join Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe on the first unit, while Quinton Byfield will be demoted to the third line.
This change, in our opinion, is completely nonsensical considering that the second overall pick in 2019 is having an excellent season with 12 goals and 18 assists in 42 games.
Here are the complete lines for the Kings for tonight's game:
Pierre-Luc Dubois -- Anze Kopitar -- Adrian Kempe
Trevor Moore -- Phillip Danault -- Kevin Fiala
Jaret Anderson-Dolan -- Quinton Byfield -- Alex Laferriere
Carl Grundstrom -- Trevor Lewis -- Arthur Kaliyev

Acquired by the Kings this summer, Pierre-Luc Dubois signed an eight-year deal with an annual salary of $8.5 million. However, since his arrival in Los Angeles, his performances have been clearly below expectations, accumulating only 19 points, including 9 goals, in 42 games.
He is notably in a very worrying offensive slump, with only eight points in his last 26 games. Moreover, if the Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts native continues at his current pace, he would end the year with 37 points, the lowest total of his career.
