The media handling of the tragedy surrounding Johnny Gaudreau has faced strong criticism.

A so-called journalist prematurely reported the news of Gaudreau's death before it was officially confirmed by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
This unverified announcement led to a wave of unhealthy speculation and curiosity throughout the night.
Although the information turned out to be correct, this lack of professionalism caused harm to Johnny Gaudreau's family and loved ones.
The journalist, identified as Dylan Robillard, has since been dismissed for his mishandling of the situation.
Here are his comments:
"I'm sorry. I was logged off because I was at work. It was not my place. I understand that. I wish to apologize to everyone who supported me, the Gaudreau family, and anyone I may have hurt.

I will take the time to learn more about proper etiquette and professionalism in journalism, as well as to be a better person in general.

I have ended any contention with the media outlets I was associated with, and my thoughts and tweets are my own, not those of my surroundings.

I believe it's important to remember the seriousness of drunk driving. Please donate to MADD Canada or any other organizations in the U.S. to help fight against drunk driving. MADD raises awareness about the impact of drunk driving on people and their families.

Rest in peace, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau."

Established journalists' reactions highlight the importance of respecting moments of mourning and allowing families and teams to make official announcements.
