A former first-round pick available on waivers
The Columbus Blue Jackets have surprised in recent hours by placing forward Brendan Gaunce on waivers during the 2024 playoffs.
Gaunce, 30, was the captain of the Cleveland Monsters, the Blue Jackets' AHL affiliate.
He helped his team win the North Division of the AHL.
Gaunce will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, making this decision unusual.
With 177 NHL games and 13 goals, he is known for his defensive role.
In the AHL, he recently scored 28 points in 39 games.
Teams like the Rangers, Panthers, Stars, or Oilers might be interested in his services. At 6 feet 3 inches and 220 pounds, he could bolster a fourth line.
His annual salary is $762,500 until the summer.
