Kent Hughes Confirmed to Have Dodged a Massive Bullet After Disaster in Calgary
The Calgary Flames unfortunately made a major decision that is aging very poorly.
Huberdeau's Underwhelming Performance
When they acquired Jonathan Huberdeau, the management believed they were getting a star forward to replace Matthew Tkachuk in their lineup. The Quebecer had just completed an incredible 115-point season, including 30 goals, placing him second in the league's scoring, tied with Johnny Gaudreau.
However, since his arrival in Calgary, things have gone downhill for the Saint-Jérôme native. He posted a disappointing 55 points in 79 games last year, a drop of 60 points, and he is on track to do even worse this season, with only six points in 12 games.
Many believed that Darryl Sutter was to blame for his difficult season last year, but even with a new head coach in Calgary, things have not improved.
The Flames and Huberdeau's production are sending shivers down the organization's spine, especially as he begins the first year of an eight-year contract at $10.5 million annually. Ouch!
Huberdeau Faces a Tough Reality
During yesterday's game, an incredible scene occurred when his head coach, Ryan Huska, benched his star player for the entire third period.
Considering the many rumors of a potential link between Huberdeau and Montreal, had he tested the free agent market in the summer of 2023, it seems that the Canadiens organization may have dodged a major bullet.
Nevertheless, he is far too talented to not bounce back soon, and we hope he will manage to take flight very soon.
