Arber Xhekaj's Future in Montreal: Everything Has Changed Regarding His Next Steps With the Team
During his show last night on TVA Sports, Jean-Charles Lajoie sparked discussion with an unconventional proposal for Arber Xhekaj.
Given his recent demotion to Laval and the depth on the left side of the defense, particularly due to Jayden Struble's emergence, Lajoie suggested a surprising idea that might be considered by the team's management.
Should Arber Xhekaj be moved to offense to continue playing with the Montreal Canadiens despite the congestion on the blue line?
"Xhekaj in Laval? I say, move him forward!", declared Jean-Charles Lajoie, Monday, during the JiC show.
His co-host, Tony Marinaro, known for his outspoken opinions, didn't dislike the idea.
"It's not a crazy idea. We have seen defensemen who couldn't secure a spot play on the wing." - Tony Marinaro
"The sample size is not large, but I will say this: 'Struble plays better hockey than Xhekaj or understands the game better.'"
Lajoie concluded his point by referring to a former robust defenseman who changed positions once in the NHL to maintain a role in the league.
"Who are the defensemen who drop the gloves in the NHL today? There aren't many. If it was good for Nicolas Deslauriers, let's start thinking about it right away. Xhekaj could make his mark on the left wing of a fourth line."
Considering the current roster of defensemen and the promising young talents in the organization, there is significant depth on the left side of the defense.
Could Xhekaj's future involve a position among the twelve forward players?
Given his offensive flair, strong shot, interesting skating for his size, good hands, and robustness, the idea of seeing him play forward isn't far-fetched.
Do you like the idea of Arber Xhekaj being used in a forward role?
