Knowing that the Montreal Canadiens will not be participating in the playoffs this year, several players from the team have decided to continue their season with the national team at the World Championship.

Indeed, although this competition had greatly lost its importance in recent years, we are currently witnessing a major turnaround. Given that NHL players have officially been authorized to participate in the 2026 Olympics, many of them wish to represent their country to demonstrate the extent of their talent.
Moreover, while Cole Caufield had stated that he would evaluate this option once the season ended, he quickly changed his mind when Bill Guérin, the general manager of the American team, stated that players would do well to seize the opportunity to align with the delegation this summer if they wish to potentially participate in the Olympics.
«Cole Caufield expressed the desire to represent the United States at the World Hockey Championship once the season ended. And if he is healthy, he will have this opportunity.» - Eric Engels

Wow! What excellent news!
Back this year after a serious shoulder injury, the first-round pick in 2019 had an excellent season, notably setting a new personal best with a tally of 60 points (24 goals and 36 assists). There is no doubt that this additional experience will help him continue his progress in view of the 2024-2025 campaign.
In this regard, in the last few hours, journalist Andy Strickland seemed to confirm Cole Caufield's participation in the World Championship, mentioning the name of number 22 among the players who should represent the United States from May 10 to 26 next.
«The other players who should represent the United States at the upcoming world championships are Johnny Gaudreau, Cole Caufield, Tage Thompson, Luke Hughes, Shane Pinto, in addition to the names I reported yesterday, namely Brady Tkachuk, Seth Jones, and Trevor Zegras.» - Andy Strickland

This means that the Montreal Canadiens forward will have the opportunity to play alongside his good friend Trevor Zegras, with whom he had been dominant in the American development program before making the jump to the NHL.
Moreover, don't be surprised if other players like Nick Suzuki, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Samuel Montembeault also participate in this tournament, which will certainly add a dose of excitement to the competition.
